Burghclere & Newtown Woman's Institute

Logo.jpg

The WI began in Burghclere and Newtown villages in 1919 and has been going continually ever since.

We are open to all.  We meet monthly and offer a chance to meet others, a chance to listen to interesting talks, and a chance to join smaller interest groups.  At the moment these include a book club, mah-jong, a lunch club, cinema visits, occasional skittles and sometimes short manageable walks.

Each year we try a few outings and, in recent years, these have included a shopping trip to Clark’s Village, a boat trip on the Solent, and a visit to Hampton Court.

At the present time we average at meetings about 45 members and meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 9.45am in the Portal Hall.  There is usually a guest speaker and the obligatory tea, coffee and biscuits.  We have a small membership fee per year and always welcome new members.

We are part of a wider group which includes, among others, close links with the Kingsclere WI and those in East Woodhay, and we are all members of Hampshire Federation.  If you would like to come along and see for yourself please just call in.
