Welcome to the website for
Burghclere Parish Council
Within Burghclere village there are three schools and a pre-school, the Church of the Ascension, Portal Hall, Sports Club, a well-equipped play area and recreation ground. The attractive rural aspect, the quality and diverse character of housing, together with its proximity to excellent transport links make the parish a very desirable place to live.
This beautiful rural parish, centred around the village of Burghclere, also encompasses a number of dispersed hamlets including Old Burghclere, Adbury Holt, Whitway and Tothill, and other scattered settlements surrounded by woods and farmland. The southern portion of the parish lies within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Several local attractions, principal among them Highclere Castle and Sandham Memorial Chapel in Burghclere itself, draw large numbers of visitors every year. An extensive network of footpaths and bridleways, together with several commons (Herbert Plantation, Burghclere, Earlstone and Newtown) make the area very popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders, as well as young families.
